The Advantages of Alkaline Batteries

The Advantages of Alkaline Batteries

Alkaline batteries are just one type used in personal electronics today. Typically, these batteries are used in smaller electric devices because their current level is more suitable for them. Many of the most commonly recognizable battery brands today are Alkaline based batteries. They have many advantages over the zinc and carbon based batteries.

  1. Construction

    • Alkaline batteries are made from two types of metal: manganese dioxide and zinc. Power is generated when a reaction occurs between the two metals. This power is utilized by the device to run various functions.

    Shelf Life

    • The Alkaline battery is highly commercialized and sold in stores throughout the country. Since it has a longer shelf life due to its stable nature, this allows the batteries to be stocked longer. That is always a benefit for store owners who do not want to have to rotate stock as often, and buy their items in large quantities. They may store the batteries on stock shelves, or store shelves for longer periods of time. The batteries experience less leakage over this time period.

    Last Longer

    • Alkaline batteries typically last longer than zinc and carbon batteries. Though the zinc and carbon batteries are cheaper in many cases, the user can end up buying more to get the same amount of usage from their devices. This is a big advantage for Alkaline batteries. The Alkaline batteries also perform better at lower temperatures.

    Variable Sizes

    • Ideal for small and larger devices, the Alkaline battery is more widely usable. From flashlights to hand-held radios, these long-life batteries are well suited for a range of different electronics.
